The Restaurant Dress Code

When you make a restaurant reservation, you will automatically start thinking what you'll wear for that moment. In case you do not know the dress code of the restaurant, you can call and ask directly just to avoid an error. In general, expectations regarding the dress code are divided into four categories: casual, business casual, elegant casual and formal.

1. Casual
A restaurant that has labeled the dress code as casual may lead guests to believe that the door is left wide open. A casual dress code for fine dining restaurants means comfortable yet polished. Tracksuit or shorts and slippers may not work for a fine-dining setting. Casual style restaurants are turning to polo shirts, pants and shoes, and dresses for women, pants, blouses and shoes. Light colors are preferred.

2. Business casual
To grasp the concept of outfits that comprise the business casual closet, apply the polished-yet-comfortable look to item you would wear at the workplace. In general, business casual means dressing professionally.
For women, business casual includes suits, collared shirts, knee-length skirts, and high heels shoes. For men, a combination of suits, pants and collared shirt, with shoes or loafers can be an option.

3. Casual Elegant
The casual elegant style presumes a higher attention to details. For men, it could be a suit and tie or suit pants and elegant shirt with tie or bow tie. For women dress outfit starts from an elegant day dress to the classic black dress. And if the casual style preferred light colors, in the elegant casual outfits dark colors prevail. However, casual elegant does not mean formal.

4. Formal
Casual elegant is extremely different from formal. If in the case of the casual elegant style one could chose elegant dresses and simple suits, the formal wear imposes a ceremonial outfit. This category is rare, but when it is suggested, it is imperative that it be followed, especially if the restaurant organizes an open event with obligatory outfit. Formal wear can even go a step above and befall black tie invitations, which call for men to wear tuxedos, and women to wear cocktail or long dresses.

In restaurants, the dress code is well established and it was imposed for the customers to enjoy a pleasant, comfortable, intimate and safe atmosphere.
